Laundry…It’s On the Line

Clotheslines make a comeback! Do your Laundry “Online”
With the cost of operating an electric clothes dryer around $100 per year - more in the summer months - many people are turning to “solar dryers” a.k.a. the clothesline. I enjoy hanging my clothes out there, and I’m thankful for three huge trees in my yard which form the Laundry Triangle. I ran a line around all of them and I can get three loads of wash out there, easy.
Some members of my family don’t like their stiff clothes after they’ve come in off the line. To remedy this, I bring them in when they’re still slightly damp and toss them in the dryer for 5 minutes or so. Problem solved.
Supposedly line drying will make your clothes last and look better longer. Plus, they’ll have fewer wrinkles and no static cling!

You GO, Mercurio!
Neighbors of Michael Mercurio in a New Jersey Shore town are complaining about his 35-foot windmill that generates power which he adds to the grid! He’s also got a bunch of solar panels on the roof and people are saying it’s an eyesore. Looking at the pictures, I’d say the real eyesore is all those telephone poles and wires running through the area. The windmill looks perfectly fine to me. I can’t believe his neighbors are suing.
I’ll keep my eyes on this case and let you know what happens…

My Post on Compost
I have been wanting to purchase a CompostTumbler for a couple of years now. I just couldn’t see spending all that money on something that I would be filling with dead leaves and food scraps.
My solution was to use a plastic dog crate that my puppy had outgrown. I was just in the yard, rolling it around and watching all that beautiful compost sift out through the air holes. The sticks didn’t break down to well, but everything else did and I’m very pleased, except for the amount of time it took to get a nice batch of compost. The CompostTumbler can often produce a ready batch of compost in 14 days. Mine took way longer than that.
