You GO, Mercurio!

Neighbors of Michael Mercurio in a New Jersey Shore town are complaining about his 35-foot windmill that generates power which he adds to the grid! He’s also got a bunch of solar panels on the roof and people are saying it’s an eyesore. Looking at the pictures, I’d say the real eyesore is all those telephone poles and wires running through the area. The windmill looks perfectly fine to me. I can’t believe his neighbors are suing.

I’ll keep my eyes on this case and let you know what happens…

Cut Down on Equipment

You can help save the environment by backing up your files online. That way you won’t have another piece of equipment taking up space at your workstation and you’ll help the environment by lessening the need for production of new equipment, because we all know what polluters those manufacturing plants can be! The easy and secure solution is an Online Backup of your files. This will come in handy in case of flood, fire or some other natural disaster. Store up to 2 gigabytes for free, or for just $5 per month you can store an unlimited amount. Rest assured the items are encrypted and secure. Pay a visit to i-drive’s website and check it out.

Recycling CFL’s

We all know that these compact flourescent lightbulbs are great for saving energy. The drawback is that they contain mercury and need to be disposed of properly. No big deal, just make sure they don’t get (gulp!) thrown in with your regular household trash.

Natural Cures - Better for You, and the Planet

Seek natural cures whenever possible. The research and development and manufacturing of prescription medications involve solid waste, hazardous waste and hazardous substance releases which lead to air, water and soil contamination.

Live Earth Notes, part 4

Wow, what an awesome finale to the Live Earth event! THE POLICE - and they played my favorite song of theirs, “Can’t Stand Losing You” along with “Roxanne” and it was amazing to see John Mayer hop onstage with them and play the intro, and help play the rest of “Message In A Bottle” where the message of ’sending out an SOS’ was very appropriate for this event. SOS has been a running theme throughout the day. Rihanna performed her song by that name too.

Al Gore ’s speech at the end was short but sweet. Answer that call! Go to the Live Earth website and take that pledge.

Live Earth Notes, part 3

Well, after Melissa Etheridge finally finished her long, drawn out tirade, they showed the Foo Fighters onstage in London. Then Alicia Keys! She’s brilliant.

The 5 research scientists stationed in Antartica who formed a band were pretty good!

By the way, in case you don’t know Morse Code, part of the logo for the Live Earth Concerts is this:

. . . - - - . . . which is “SOS” in Morse Code. Rush has used this concept in song before. Their tune YYZ has a drumbeat in Morse Code. It spells out YYZ.

Bon Jovi’s set was awesome! Lost Highway, Who says You Can’t Go Home, It’s My Life, Livin’ On A Prayer. I have liked this band ever since I saw the video for “Runaway” in 1984. Something told me that this band had what it took and they would go far. Lo and behold, they’ve become one of the biggest names in rock and roll and, in my opinion, opened the floodgates of hard rock back in ‘86 with Slippery When Wet and we all know what a big year that was for so many different rock acts.

Still to come in the big Live Earth show: Roger Waters, The Police and more!

Live Earth Notes, part 2

I’m still watching the Live Earth coverage. MTV (which stands for MUSIC television) is playing the reality show “America’s Next Top Model.”  I guess it doesn’t surprise me. eMpTyV hasn’t shown music videos in years. I’m tuned into Bravo Channel and enjoying performances from Fall Out Boy, Akon, Shakira, AFI, XZibit, Ludacris, etc. I’m eagerly awaiting Bon Jovi’s performance - and The Police!

The Pussycat Dolls were great!

Melissa Etheridge is (and has been) making a long, droning speech during her performance and kept referring to the war, going totally off topic. The war can’t be fought if there’s not a planet to fight it on.

We’ve got to take care of the planet, and it will take care of us!

Live Earth Notes, part 1

I’m watching the Live Earth concerts today, so there will probably be a lot of posts from me today. I just saw Genesis perform “Land of Confusion” and it was absolutely thrilling. I was singing along! And what a fitting song for today’s event!

Just learned more about something I had read about in a magazine recently. Chevron and Texaco have ruined a section of Ecuador with their oil project. Check out this website called Chevron Toxico for the story.
